LDS Church Installs Third API 1608 Console

October 2017; Salt Lake City, UT:
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is adding a 1608 console to the new mix mastering room at their headquarters in Salt Lake City. This is the third 1608 the LDS Church has installed; the first two 1608s reside in the Concert Hall and Production Studio, respectively. After installing a 64 channel Vision console in 2014, Senior Audio Engineer Trent Walker recognized the value of the API sound, and proceeded to add several 1608s and a BOX console in the following years.

"We love everything about the API sound," said Mr. Walker. "API consoles are very musical and always do what we need them to do. The sound quality and reliability are huge driving factors, as well."

Reliability is key because, as Walker notes, the API consoles are used to record everything from classical concerts and recitals to meetings held by the Church. Additionally, the Vision is the broadcast console for every performance by the acclaimed Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

"We could buy whatever we want, but for a lot of manufacturers, the sound varies from product to product," said Walker. "There's a signature sound that comes from API that translates very well. Everything is uniform and consistent as far as products and sound."
