The cover story of Mix magazine's most recent June issue, "The Class of 2018," zeroes in on the "hottest new studios worldwide." Featured on the issue's cover is the personal studio of John Driskell Hopkins, founding member of the Zac Brown Band. Hopkins' Brighter Shade Studios is built into the attic of his Atlanta, GA home, and an API Box console serves as the centerpiece of his work space. Interestingly, Hopkins' bandmate Zac Brown also has an API console — a 48-channel Legacy Plus — at the center of his studio Southern Ground Nashville.
In designing Hopkins' studio, Steve Durr and Matt Schlachter of Steven Durr Designs wanted to be "particularly careful with the materials we chose in terms of weight and budget." With its small footprint and big sound, the Box proved to be a natural choice for Brighter Shade Studios. Check out John Driskell Hopkins' Instagram account to see clips of his Box console in action.
